Today, my father took me out for some driving lessons. I accidentally reversed while still in the driveway, and I instinctively hit the brakes. In my panic, I accidentally let go of the brakes, and ended up reversing straight into our house, all while my father yelled "NOOOOOO!" FML

Yikes. You might want to practice somewhere where you can't break anything. Empty parking lots are nice.

i drive on the back roads where there isn't anything to hit except for the ditch

Don't worry OP! Driving is scary at first, but it honestly gets better. You just had the bad luck.

first time i drove, i almost went into the ditch by turning o.o

I almost road my moms truck over a cliff running into the side of a cattle guard while trying to learn to make turns and let off the brake in panic, luckily I braked am again and my mom put it in park... But I haven't driven since

You know what the problem was? Your dad. Seriously! When I was learning how to drive, I only managed to make progress once I kicked my dad out of the car. After fifteen minutes of watching me drive perfectly, he was allowed back in, and kept his mouth shut for the rest of the lessons. Did wonders for my skills.

I hope the house was not damaged too much. Driving for the first time can be pretty scary. I think your father should rethink his teaching strategy. Never let someone in the car for the first time near things that can be destroyed.

There's a reason the cars that belong to official driving instructors have a secondary break panel on the instructor's side. This is it.

Your dad could have saved you both some stress by pulling up the emergency breaks.

It depends on the car. For example, the E-brake on the Explorer I learned to drive in was firmly situated where the clutch would be on a manual, well out of reach of a passenger. On my Forester, it's right at the center console, which IS accessible to a passenger.

First you take the new driver to a deserted open piece of road, then you work up to closer quarters. For instance, a mall after it closes; a deserted country road, etc. Dad's fault :(
