Today, my fiancé told me he didn't have the money to make payments on my engagement ring and that I either have to return it, or make the payments myself. Now we aren't engaged any more, and are "dating." FML

Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML

Today, I'm living with my now ex-girlfriend of 9 years in the house we bought together. What's worse than that is the fact that 2 weeks before she told me she was unhappy and ended it, I had bought an engagement ring. I didn't get the chance to ask, and had to return the ring. FML

My husband didn't get me a ring. I have my Great Grandmothers diamond, and my mom bought my wedding band as my wedding gift. Difference is, my husband was just poor... not a jerk who dangles something like that in front of you and then yanks it away. Dump his ass.

engagement isn't about a ring but the ring is a symbol of your love and commitment. It's also a sign of support, which includes financial support. If your new boyfriend can't afford a ring for you dump his ass. if you have to pay for your own engagement ring then what is your marriage going to be like? How the hell are you going to pay for a wedding, much less a house and a life together. Find someone that's truly committed to making sacrifices for you.

# 49 took the words out of my mouth. An engagement is not dependent on a ring. It's only a symbol. A very special one at that, but only a symbol nonetheless. Try love... it works better than a ring. :)

Wow. Dump him. Not because he can't afford it but because he expected you to pay for your own engagement ring. If he couldn't afford it he shouldn't have bought it, he should of just proposed with a cheapie and saved for a nicer one.

you guys are getting robbed! the reason you pay thousands of dollars is cuz you're buying off of the middle mans middle man... im a jeweler and can tell you shop around and you can find that ring less than $700
