Today, my friend and I were in her mom's car talking about which job was harder: actor or artist. I said, "Art is easy. You just scribble on a piece of paper and call it abstract art." Her mom squinted at me in the rear-view mirror and my friend stopped talking. Then she said, "My mom is an artist." FML

Today, I finished a big art project. It was a self-portrait done in acrylics. Proud of my piece, I showed my mom. After some thought her first comment was, "well, I'm either going to insult your art or your face." FML

Today, I was interviewing a woman for a job. She told me that she may need days off because of her artistic son. I jokingly replied, "Does he color on the walls or something?" She then stared at me with a weird look on her face. Autistic, her son is autistic. FML

Today, I was partnered up with a girl in my art class, since the teacher had asked us to take turns drawing portraits of each other. I went first and felt pretty proud of how the drawing turned out. I showed it to her and she said "That's OK. I'm not good at drawing either." FML

Today, despite me being a master-level carpenter, and my art sells for thousands, I heard my mom telling her snobby friends how embarrassed she is of me because I’m “basically unemployed” and waste my time on “hobby crafts” like a teenage nerd instead of getting “a real job” and finding a wife. Today, a friend asked me to come with her to the art building at school so I could pose in the stance of a figure she was drawing for her exam. I obliged and sat for the pose. When the art teacher walked by, she looked at me, then at the sketch, pointed to the legs, and said, "Make them fatter". FML

That is not art! Art takes talent and practice! Acting is an art too, and it's not easy! Don't down grade something until u experienced it and had to make a living off of it like her!

That was a really bad comparison. Art takes skill, and most people have a hard time getting by when pursuing a career with visual art. And I'm not just defending art, acting requires talent as well. And it isn't ever easy. You need to memorize lines, sometimes songs and choreography. The point is that both are difficult in their own ways. Comparing acting to art is like comparing guitar to drums. They both take skill, and hard work.

I agree that being a famous actor/actress is hard, I'd HATE to have people wanting to know what I was doing all day everyday, and I feel bad for their kids because they get treated the same way. However, art is not easy. Ask anyone with a degree in Art, it's about the hardest profession to make money from. I love to draw, but I would never want to be an artist for a living.
