Today, my friend and I were seeing a movie. We ended up sitting next to a man who was continually laughing, clapping, and bouncing up and down on his seat. Extremely annoyed, we turned to him and told him to "shut the fuck up". Turns out he had downs syndrome and ran out of the theater crying. FML

Why would your first course of action be to tell someone to "shut the **** up"? I agree with #3.

#21, AHAHAHAH and I agree with #36, but perhaps everyone in the UK, like # 5, must HAVE down's syndrome and so its a normal occurrence wherever they go.

No, #40, if someone did that to me I would turn around and ask them politely to quiet down, because I was raised with some class. The OP obviously was not, and for that he is obviously at fault. It has nothing to do with Downs Syndrome, it's simple common courtesy.

I agree, FYL. I wish the parents would realize that just because their kid is 'special', doesn't mean he should get to have a 100% happy life.

@49: do you really think he doesn't get crap from other people? having a mental illness is basically open season for everyone else to give you a hard time for something you can't help. of course he doesn't have a 100% happy life. he was just trying to enjoy a freaking movie.

Jeez, people are rude nowadays. If someone is making noise your first reaction is to tell them to "shut the **** up" rather than just asking them politely to quiet down? How sad.

An adult man was bouncing up and down and clapping his hands in public and it didn't occur to you that he might be mentally impaired in some way? You definitely deserved this. Also, #5, you are an asshole.

YDI! You don't tell people to shut the **** up. You ask politely first.
