Today, my girlfriend ran off with my beloved dog. Why? Yesterday she asked me who I'd choose, and I honestly said that I would choose the dog. FML

OP here. Just to set things straight, we'd only been dating for about 3 weeks and weren't lifelong friends before that or anything. My dog I've had for 7 years, so yeah, he won. I agree that if it had been the other way around I would have deserved it. The whole thing came up when we were sitting on the couch and I was rubbing my dog's back. Psycho chick then asked why I wasn't rubbing hers instead and asked who I cared for more and choose. "'Cause you can only have one!" Now I have none :(. Still looking for my dog.

Of course. The dog would never ask to choose in such an idiotic way.

That was your fault, OP. Taking the dog was awful, but you should have just told her she should know how much you care about her. FYL but YDI

1. Why did she even ask something like that? You don't ask people to chose between their family members! 2. How long have you two been together? If you've been with her for let's say 4 or 5 years then I can see why she would be upset but I guess if that were the case she wouldn't have run off with the dog (or asked such a stupid quesion in the first place)

Yeah, how long you've been together is really important for some perspective here...

She asked who he would choose not to choose one of them it didn't seem like an ultimatum just a question. but either way she overreacted

i found this one in moderation last night and it said they were together a week but i guess that one didnt get posted.

your girlfriend is the leader of the pack.

Dude, get in touch with the cops on this one - it may only be a dog we are talking about, but I'm pretty sure that is either theft or kidnapping.

If someone ran off with my dog, you could bet your sweet ass I would be doing everything I could to get him back.

Yup, this is theft. Possibly breaking and entering if she was there without permission. Call the cops, OP, and quickly. I've heard a lot of stories about people like this giving the dog away or worse.

51, thanks for saying I have a sweet ass! I've been working very hard on it for some time now :)

Call her and offer to take her on a long walk that will include getting her hair and nails done. Tell her you'll be sure to bring along all her favorite snacks. Explain how you'll be more attentive to her needs, and will listen more. I got my fingers crossed for you op. I sure hope your dog goes for this.

...I was hoping this was about the ex so that I could add a 'And then take her to the doctor for a hysterectomy' joke. But it was still funny!

Maybe she was asking your opinion of who she should choose, you or the dog.

Have you ever heard od selective misinformation? YDI

I've never understood how can anyone prefer a dog over a person, specially if that person is your significant other. I guess we're all different.

I would choose my dog over my boyfriend every time. He knows this. I don't have human children, don't want them, and my dog is my child. Most people would choose their children over a significant other. That's just how I see it.

Well for one, dogs are loyal. And two, your dog wouldn't ask you to choose. Besides your pets can't care for themselves, you became an owner which is practically parenthood. If push came to shove your significant other could move on without you, your pets are a lifelong commitment.

I don't think you guys are getting it. She didn't ask him to choose but only if he had to, which one he would. I don't think she wanted him to actually get rid of one of them. No sane guy would ever tell his girlfriend that he would choose his dog over her. And hey, if he really loves his dog more than his girlfriend then maybe it's for the best that she's gone. That still gives her no right to take the dog though. This is one of those rare cases in which I can say both FYL and YDI. Hope you get your dog back OP, good luck.

So OP should've just lied? The double standards this community runs on are insane. If you lie, you're an asshole. If you tell the truth, you should've lied. OP answered truthfully, the girlfriend shouldn't ask a question that she doesn't want an honest answer to. It's not OP's fault she was insane enough to do something like this because she can't handle the truth.

You know, different people having different opinions isn't the same as one person having double standards.

You know, you can make general statements about a community without directing it at a specific person. I saw a couple comments saying the OP deserved it, so I responded to one of them. I wasn't saying this person in particular was on a double standard, nor did I insinuate it anywhere in my post. I simply put that in as an observation for part of my comment.

That's my point, really. You're still saying there's a double-standard just because not everyone has the same opinion about things. It's just a pet peeve for me, no need to get all defensive. Still, you did reply to a specific comment to make a point about the whole community.

I'm not getting defensive lol. Just responding to what you're saying. A pet peeve of mine is when people think that you're getting defensive just because you respond to them. I think it's best to just move on though.
