Today, my grandfather was counting all the grandchildren he had and saying how fortunate he was to have all of us. When I pointed out that he'd forgotten to count me, he turned and said "You're adopted, you don't count as a real grandchild" FML

I'm adopted too, I would have felt like shit if someone in my family said that to me. :( Sorry, you're grandfather is an ass.

Yeah...to echo what some others have said, I'd say, "Yeah, I'm glad I'm adopted because that means I'm not related to a douchebag like you!" and left. You don't have to put up with that shit. Shame on him!

I have a grandfather and he has like 3 adopted children, and he loves them just as much as he loves us, why does it matter if you share the same blood type ? thats kinda ridiculous

I would've been like "F*** YOU OLD MAN! DEATH IS UPON YE!" and while leaping in the air, I would take out the knife that was in my back pocket and slash his throat. While he looks up at me with slowly dimming eyes, I would lick the blood off the knife and say, "Now I have your blood" Then you walk off into the sunset while the song "Big Pimpin" plays in the background.

I'm planning to adopt in a few years, and while I've been doing my best to get my family used to this (especially my father's side), I am terrified that someone in my family will say something similar. Don't listen to your grandfather... You have every right to be part of your family.

AWTA. Just because he's not biologically related to you doesn't mean you're any less a part of the family. Senile people can be so cruel. I guess it's down to whether you feel a part of the family and how the rest of your family reacted to what he said.

Wow, that one hits close to home. I'm adopted too, and I would be devastated if someone in my family had said that ! I actually feel blessed to be adopted, I have the most wonderful life. Clearly, your "grandfather" doesn't deserve you !
