Sadly I know too many people with parents like that. My ex in particular can do something sweet as can be and then next moment she is being called selfish for something trivial. Such a "What have you done for me lately" attitude. I say don't do anything crazy like cancel the trip as it will just make matters worse, but remember how she is before doing wonderful things like that in future. I say that people like that have a real negative impact on your life and your self esteem. I know she is your mom and you love her but consider minimizing contact. You did not deserve it and I wish you luck.

Letting her keep the trip is tantamount to placing your head in a car door, slamming it repeatedly and then saying thank you. Cancel the trip, be civil and tell her that you didn't appreciate her attitude after paying for everything and the next time she decides to complain to you about anything you're not doing or doing for her, she needs to remember this instance.

Let her borrow the dress. Then buy yourself a bunch of new dresses with her credit cards while she's gone :)
