Today, my mom asked if she could use my red dress for her two-week trip to the Caribbean. I said no, because I was going to a party and I wanted to wear it. She called me a selfish, greedy bitch who would stay single forever. I paid for her plane ticket, her hotel fees and her cruise ship fee. FML

#186 YDI - Who's trying to earn love from whom? Buying her mom the entire trip means the gal deserved some appreciation. Being called a bitch by your mom is NOT a way of expressing appreciation. I don't know what kind of family you come from, and I don't want to find out.

You sure have some shitty dynamics in that relationship. This can't be the first time your mother has been so nasty towards you. So why are you buying her cruises and things? If it's just because you've managed to earn good money and she hasn't, then your mother is just taking advantage. If you're trying to be nice to get her to get her to be nice to you - give up.The nicer you are the nastier she'll be. If you have any siblings I'll bet she raves about how wonderful they are even though they don't buy her anything and only visit once a year. If even half my guesses are correct, it's time you moved on, moved up and/or moved away.

186/YourFault: Just because she bought her mother a trip doesn't mean she's buying her mother's affection. And besides, even if she was, sometimes it works. And your comment about how her mother doesn't have to be nice to her may be true, but anyone with a sense of decency is bound to be nice to the person who shelled out a lot of money for a trip. All in all, your mother is a greedy, selfish bitch, very unlike you. If you want to spend any more money, go out and buy the ugliest red dress you can find and give it to her. And then tell her that you bought it with the money you got back from cancelling the trip. :)
