Today, my mom was taking an online IQ test. To the question "On which continent is Canada located?" she responded "Antarctica." If intelligence is genetic, I'm screwed. FML

You're right. OP should have said "if intelligence BE genetic," because "if intelligence is genetic" implies we take "if" to mean "because" (subjunctive vs. indicative mood).

That's ok… my mom thought that Canada was IN Alaska, and that Alaska (as depicted in US maps) was an island with one straight edge. I was home schooled by her... Thankfully, I knew better.

Most parents who home school their children use the teaching workbooks that cover the area of knowledge. They don't have to be subject matter experts in everything they teach. In fact many teachers in regular schools don't always know fully what they're teaching.

I'm sorry op. Just be glad that stuff like that doesn't carry on to you or your children. I swear to God...I think we are siblings and have the same mom. My mom puts a question mark after every single sentence! WTF?! It comes out like this: "Hi Jenn? Have fun? When you get back call me?" The worst part is: she graduated with a 4.0GPA in both HS AND College! I'm at UNC and she calls me "lazy & a loser"....I'm so lost.

That is a stupid question for an IQ test. It has nothing to do with the IQ. It is a general knowledge question. It just proves that your mother didn't go to school, doesn't give a damn about the world she lives in, has a very bad memory, or all of the above. People can have an IQ of 200, but if they live isolated, don't read anything, don't do anything with their intelligence, they can still be very uncultured.
