Today, my mother-in-law visited the house while my husband and I were at work. When we returned, we discovered she'd shredded and thrown away all the scribbled on papers sprawled on our messy desks. We're graphics designers. Those were rough sketches for about 14 different clients. FML

Ah... it finally made it in. The young lady who controls this character account is the OP for this one. It happened a long time ago, but it still riles her up terribly. The locks have since been changed and little miss tidy-up-without-asking is not allowed to have a copy of the keys. Ever.

being a graphic designer i would have literally put her in shredder . . . .Feeling sorry for u. . .hope you guys can make it up again and meet deadline

I really don't believe this fml I'm sure her mother in law knows what they do for a living so I doubt she would just throw away their papers like that

She's incapable of understanding what graphic design is, and the fact that it's a legit job. I'm not sure if it's a language issue, age issue, or both, but no matter how often, how simply, and how slowly it's explained, it all goes in one ear and out the other. ...DAMN that was fast!!

What a bitch! She definitely deserves to pay for that!!

Why does the mother-n-law have a key?

Because at the time, she was trusted enough to have it.

Well, tough lesson in trust. In hind sight, if you work at home, make sure the work offices have separate locks.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I'm a graphic designer too, and I would just about die if something like that happened to me. Some people...

dear mother-in-laws; STOP CLEANING OUR DESKS WHEN YOU COME OVER sincerely, everyone

Someone please explain the rational as to why someone would deserve this

For a lot of people this would be a YDI for letting the mother-in-law have a key.. However OP has said they thought she could be trusted to have a key. My mum has a key to my house, she lives miles away though. The worst she does is clean the kitchen and bathroom with bleach.

Ours actually wasn't given a key. She nicked my husband's set and made herself copies. With the new house, I installed locks with keys that can only be copied by the original locksmith. The request has to be in writing and signed by either myself or my husband. It will cost a lot more to copy a key if I need to, but it's well worth it. I also installed a security system with frequently changing access codes. Even if she manages to break in, the cops will pick her up in 5 minutes for unlawful entry. Harsh, but with someone who refuses to recognize their son and daughter-in-law's privacy and display some basic manners, those measures became necessary.
