Today, my mother sat me down to tell me that since coming home from college, I sounded like "a liberated woman." She was disappointed and disturbed by this, and said that I should stop having strong opinions and ideals because it would make finding a husband for me difficult. FML

Today, my mother is mad at me because I dared, yes DARED, to go out with a girl who stands up to her instead of just meekly doing what she tells her. Which should tell you exactly what sort of woman my mother is, so you know this FML is just the tip of my lifelong misery iceberg. FML

Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML

Today, I was talking with my mother and expressed my slight disappointment at how many of my friends are getting into relationships, whereas I'm still single. My mother decided to encourage me by saying "Don't worry, sweetie. There are boys out there who don't go for looks. You'll be fine". FML

Today, my wife said I was being difficult and unreasonable, and called my mother to talk to me about my behaviour. What did I do, you ask? I dared to share my opinion on something I happen to feel strongly about, instead of just mindlessly agreeing with her opinion like I have for the past 22 years. FML

Don't stop being "a liberated woman" everyone should use their brains and being willing to speak in a peaceful manor and have discussions on issues. Besides I would rather date a woman that can tell me that I am wrong and then we can discuss why I am wrong and find common ground. Keep it up, your doing the right thing.

Don't worry about your mom, mine said the same thing. I found an cute and educated man who wants me to to be an activist for what I believe. I married him in April. You'll find a great guy, too. Your mom will see, or she won't, but don't let family pressure change your mind or heart about what you want to do!

**** that. don't listen to your mom. its 2009 for god sake, take advantage of the fact that times have changed and don't be afraid to have strong opinions and ideals! i thought men were supposed to be so strong and tough? but they cant even handle a strong women who thinks for herself? **** that there are plently of people, men too, that find strong women beautiful. don't ever give in.

I feel bad for your mom. she's spent her life pleasing others to be attractive. men in our generation are attracted to human girls, not stepford robots. don't live your life for others, it's one thing to want to do things for someone, it's another to play a character thar isn't you.

your mother sucks no offense ,she sounds really old fashioned.take my advice and dont ******* listen to her people who live by those ideals arent actually happy and usually are not treated nearly as good as they could be because of thoughts like that.
