Today, my mother told me that the carbon-monoxide alarm went off last night, but since she didn't smell any gas, she decided to just remove the batteries and go back to bed. I had to explain to her that you can't smell carbon monoxide, and that we could have died in our sleep. FML

Your mom clearly knew you couldn't smell it, but was just looking for a way to end your life while she made her get away in the emergancy ecsape pod that she secretly had installed into her closet several years ago.

If there was a carbon monoxide leak wouldn't you be dead?

you'd think that if you had a CO detector in your place, you'd know what it does and what it's detecting... if you could smell it, you wouldn't need an alarm :S

According to that logic, I don't need a smoke alarm either. After all, I can smell smoke!

I had carbon monoxide poisoning when I was a kid. It was horrible! It was worse than the time I slept with that fat girl who had thrown up.

I laughed so hard I choked on the cookie I was eating. I coughed it up. I blame you, meanie!!!

perdix 29

Sorry, I owe you a cookie. What kind do you like? Can I buy you store bought or do you require homemade? If you require homemade, do you really trust the ingredients I might scrounge up around here?

since it appears the person owed a cookie will not collect it, I will for him. And yes, I trust those ingredients, if ya know what I mean ;)

It was close! The gene pool almost got a little deeper.

I don't want your cookie, you could have poisoned it!!! Sorry... I was just forced to watch an episode of Matlock with an old man... that's the last time I volunteer!

I suggest you move out asap. If you're a minor, move in with a relative who actually has a brain. Any longer in that house and you're going to die for sure!

That was stupid and dangerous, but your mom has one point. Some places, they artificially scent carbon monoxide so you can smell a gas leak. Because they do that where I've lived, I didn't even know they had CO detectors because we don't use them.

FYL, buddy. If your mother is that idiotic then she must be hard to live with.

How are you not dead? You slept an entire night in a house where there was a CO leak. I though that CO was highly poisonous and that it can kill you even if you inhale a relatively small amount.

The detector has to detect amounts that are not yet fatal. Otherwise, how would hear the alarm?

Well, that is true. But the OP spent HOURS inhaling contaminated air. With every second spent there, a bit more CO would end up in her lungs and from there into her bloodstream.

No, CO is not always an instant killer. You can breathe it for hours or even days depending on the amount you are exposed to. And, as has been pointed out earlier, it could've been a dying battery or dying monitor.

The monitors have to be sensitive enough to pick up amounts that even only over a long time build up to dangerous levels. If they picked up only levels that were high enough to kill quickly, then people would die in cases where there was a slow build up within the blood.

Well, I guess it's true what they say: You learn something new every day! Thanks for the info, I didn't know that.

FYL Lucky you guys have lives to ****, now, though.
