Today, my new calculus teacher taught everything using nothing but soccer terms and analogies, just so the resident idiot meatheads would understand. I didn't learn a thing. FML

Does that mean you're less intelligent than the idiot meatheads?

okay, just because one student has trouble understanding doesn't mean the whole class should have to be subject to that. maybe you could volunteer as a tutor or refer to a math help center>

I am just surprised that the males in your class would know more about soccer than a female.

At least your teacher was trying to keep it relevant. Much better than the teachers who say "you'll definitely need this in the real world" but can never tell you how

One thing I like about my teacher is she only says the truth, in PRE cal she was talking about sin cos and tan and I asked when we'd need it in real life. She said only if you're going into engineering or something closely related

Tell him that you don't understand what he's talking about and that you're not paying just to hear soccer terms.

Maybe she goes to a public high school. Maybe she's not paying anything. I agree though. The teacher isn't being paid to deliver a lesson only football fans can understand.

Never be afraid to ask questions. It's better to ask then to not know.

It sounds like your teacher isn't really a keeper.

Subtle pun. Thumbs up for you.

How is understanding calculus easier than understanding soccer?

Don't worry too much about it, unless you're going to be a rocket scientist or physicist you'll never use algebra or calculus.

As a software developer I had to take calc 1 and 2 and differential equations in university. I still don't get why, I've never coded math, and never used anything above high school calc outside of school. The only reason I needed to pass was for school, unless I got a super math-y job. I agree with you unless you need it for school.

Go in for Extra help? If that doesn't work then look it up; there are tons of resources out there. Sorry you have to deal with this OP.
