Today, my parents came to visit me at the ranch I work at. They're scared to death of horses, but I was explaining how they are almost completely harmless. I was showing them how to work around the horse without getting kicked. As they relaxed, the horse kicked me. I now have a broken leg. FML

That sucks. Something similar happened to me once. I was in my playset, showing one of the neighborhood kids how safe and not scary it was up on the upper level and in the covered slide, when I got attacked by a hive of wasps who had made their home up there.

hey everyone, latkematzoball has a gigantic stick up his butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! happy??

I own a horse and I can tell you that for the most part, they really are harmless, IF you know how to be safe and IF you know the horse. I can literally walk underneath my mare's belly to get from side to the other while grooming, but that of course is *stupid* behavior that I would NEVER try with any other horse. For the record, they can kick to the side and even slightly forward, so the OP probably wasn't even standing directly behind the horse that kicked her. The few times I've been kicked, its always been while standing next to a horse, not behind it. My sympathies to the OP though. Some horses are just miserable jerks (they're a lot like people really) and I've met a few of them. Getting kicked is no fun, although they rarely kick hard enough to do more than leave a bruise.

your conversational partner has disconnected. sorry, but that had to be said.

Bless your heart. I've got horses, too. My pride knows your prides pain.

SHIT that must have hurt! What did your parents do? Get well soon!

I can honestly say that getting kicked by a horse was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I was horseback riding in Mongolia and I was unable to avoid a kick. That was in August and I still have an unsightly brown mark :( Also, I temporarily lost feeling in that part of my shin and the hair on the bruise was growing much faster than the hair surrounding the bruise.. my sympathies to the pain, my laughter to the irony

hahha i've gotten thrown off a horse. this truck came by and beeped its horn very loudly and startled the horse. i landed very hard on my ass =/ not a pleasant experience and then i got bitten by a horse when the lady told me it was ok to pet it. jesus.

Horses love to make liars out of you, I know mine do.

seriously?? horses are "almost completely harmless"??? you obviously haven't worked around horses very long then, if at all. though horses are generally harmless creatures they are VERY dangerous!! even a young foal weighs a minimum of 500lbs if its in good health. you should prolly look into your profession a bit more before you head back to work.

same thing happend to me accept it was with my friends not parents. the horse was the nicest thing, he just hated horseflies

hey gallaway_girl i assume that you are one of those really competitive pony club girls, so here is some addvice. when you stop controling the horse and work as a team the horse is going to understand you are helping it and will never even hurt you... and take the stick out of your ass... i am 17 not athletic and have carried a clydesdayl foal by my self 120lbs max

@19 you're dead wrong. If you know anything about working around horses you would know that the best place to be is right behind them. and I do mean RIGHT behind them. the closer you are to the leg the less force it hits with. where you don't want to be is out at full leg extension because, as a few people have pointed out, that's were you get hurt badly. OP I was just wondering how this happened? were you changing sides or were you just closer to the horse than you thought? I've been kicked going on ten (10) times, but my father's arab is spooky and five of those are from him. To those that don't know it's possible the horse struck her with his front leg which is unexpected around a trained horse but if spooked even the best or horses may strike.

not really, i mean, it doesnt matter if yur right behind a horse, but if you touch it or spook it some way while behing it, it will kick. and it will hurt. they will kick while you are behind them because they cannot see back there. its not good to stand by a horse. its their blind spot.

you're both wrong. the best place place to be around a horse is at LEAST 2 miles away

psh. you can still smell the horse's shit from that far.

your so right the less further you are away from the horse the les pressure it kicks you with. I am 14 and I have been around horses my whole life, have never been kicked or fallen off !!!!!!!

Actually, the closer you are the less force you are hit with, due to momentum.
