Today, my parents told me they're getting a divorce. However, they asked me not to tell any of the family so that the news doesn't spoil Christmas. Thanks, Mom and Dad. FML

They are being considerate by hiding it to avoid ruining christmas. Hardly an FML, baby.

Except for the part that they're being considerate to everybody BUT their own son, the OP.

It sucks, yes, but they think you're mature enough to tell you on Christmas. That's saying something, that they trust you and not the rest of the family.

Mature or not, they should still understand it's bad news for him. This is just showing that they care about everybody else's Christmas except his. Why can't they just tell him after Christmas just like everybody else?

Oops that's meant to be a reply to #33.

Divorce 'em! it can b done you know?

yeouch i worry if that happens in my family many many times, and i wonder if i would stop worrying if it finally happens.

Maybe they wanted to tell you because they trusted you enough and considered you to be mature and understanding. If they hadn't told you and you saw them being weird with each other it could have caused arguments, if they told you after Christmas, you'd be so shocked as they had just spent Christmas happily togther. Look at it this way, if Christmas Day goes without any arguments between them you'll know that the divorce may not be a bitter one and you'll feel better. Sorry if this is completely unreadable, but it makes sense in my head

im so sorry :( what a terrible christmas gift. best of luck
