Today, my roommate decided to turn off all appliances in the house to "save" electricity. This included the refrigerator. FML

Good thing the food industry makes our food so disgustingly preservable. All your food could probably survive better than a cockroach after a nuclear war. Good news!

You can either kick this moron out, or buy a cooler at wal-mart.....they're on sale this week.

He probably doesn't own the apartment, since the roomate boss him around.

You roommate is very...nice for trying to save electricity? But also extremely stupid for cutting off the refrigerator. Make him/her go hungry and replace the food later.

If it was only off for one day, the food inside is fine. Particularly if the door stayed closed. Even if it was off for a couple days, the only stuff you'd probably need to replace would be any milk, butter, or deli meat you had in there. Veggies that like being refrigerated actually like a slightly warmer environment even more, eggs are naturally designed to stay edible for a long time, and most other dairy products like cheese, yogurt, and sour cream, has, in some sense of the word, already gone bad. The gray area would be packaged stuff that you "refrigerate after opening." That stuff varies with a lot of conditions, so you'll need to check that it passes the sniff test before eating it. I'd be inclined to say that Peanut Butter would be most likely to be OK, while stuff like Mayonnaise will go downhill fast.

Wait, you refrigerate your peanut butter? I don't...

32 - I'm as confused as you. Wondering why no one else caught that?

#32: We leave the processed peanut butter out, but the all-natural stuff goes in the fridge so it doesn't separate -- it's easier to spread it when it's cold than it is to stir it up first every time.

I agree with #20. The power to my house has gone off for a day or two before and nothing inside the fridge went bad. Fridges are well insulated to keep it cold inside.

Thanks 61, I guess that makes sense. I've never had (or seen?) all natural peanut butter so i never even knew that or think of it. Learn something new every day.

Your hospital bills are going to wipe out your savings -- your bill will be for the case of food poisoning, while his will be for getting your foot surgically removed from his ass.

Don't forget everything else that you can get besides just food poisoning from eating bad food, that the hospital will charge you for.

I can just see OP jumping on one leg while being dragged into the ER with his other foot up his roommate's rear in a weird, perverted, bunny hop style dance. My imagination must be on the fritz today.

21, would his roommate have to see a proctologist or a podiatrist for that particular service?

#25, your imagination is fine. I can't imagine the kicks to the side and the back-and-front hops, but the three forward hops fit the bill. #37, both and a plumber, a professional wrestler and a videographer.

One of the few instances where green is a bad thing.

BunchieRules 31

Agreed. The only thing green now is OP's food.
