Today, my sister came over for a visit. I was going to surprise her with the news that I had spontaneously gotten a cat. The first thing she told me when she came in was that she ran over my neighbor's cat. None of my neighbors have cats. FML

I agree with #1. But your sister is a bitch for not watching where she drives.

most ppl keep their NEW KITTENS inside, or at least not at the road.. It sucks, but some really bad decisions on your part :(

wow, sucks that she ran it over. Hence why cats should be indoors. Growing up on the farm, any cat we tried to have outdoors always ended up as coyote dinner. It wasn't until I was a teenager that we had one cat and later her son that managed to survive and for a damn long time (they were spoiled outdoor farm cats). I think their ages were 18 and 16. But that is a rare rare thing. In the city, I see cat roadkill at least once a week. Hear cats fighting outside at night every damn night. They freeze off the tips of their ears and tails in winter, can get mange, diseases, harmed by other animals etc etc. It is not a nice existance. My two indoor cats are in shape, oooold and very content with the window ledges and spaces they have. And It is not uncommon to see indoor cats live up to 20yrs or more. So damn, if you 'spontaneously' decide to replace your dead cat OP, keep the damn thing inside next time!

ydi for letting a "new" cat out the house on the first day... you obously don't know how to look after one.

oh...so you follow your cats around outside all the time?

I let my cats go outside. Sure they could get hurt, but its just cruel to keep them locked up. If they WANT to go out, you should let them. Their decision. So FYL.

Their decision!? You must be ******* retarded... You're leaving it up to an animal decide what's in their best interest? Do you use that same logic when parenting children? WTF. I don't understand why people think cats must be outside. Why don't I let my cats outside? Cause I don't want them to get run over, picked up by some sicko who likes torturing animals, or eaten by some animal. You can't call something your pet if you leave it outside and leave some stale old food out for it. (nearly lost my dog because my dad thought it was cruel not to let it run around freely. Found him after midnight in woods his collar got on a large branch. It was also winter with over 10 inches of snow. true story)

You totally deserved that. Cats (especially new ones you just got) shouldn't go outside.

Laughed out loud at this one. That's hilarious.

You deserve it for using the word "spontaneously".

Just because you don't know what a word means doesn't mean you have to insult people who choose to use it.

Cats who get outdoors fight with other cats in their 'territory' all the time. Just because commenters haven't had it happen yet doesn't mean it won't or can't. They also fight with dogs, and chance getting several types of diseases that aren't vaccinated for, or several types of injuries... IIRC in my city there's an ordinance regarding letting a cat outdoors intentionally same as dogs and for the same reasons. OP, though, IDK about, I mean, who gets a new cat and lets it outside right away when it's not even used to the new home yet?
