Today, my smoke alarm went off. In a frenzy, I called 9-1-1 and exited my house. Several minutes later a fire truck showed up. After investigating, one of the firemen informed me I needed to change the batteries in my smoke alarm. FML

Today, a guy I been seeing went to work and left me in his house. As I made a bagel, it burned, the smoke alarm went off. This activated a call to the fire department but I didn’t know. The fire truck showed up. Little did I know, the guy’s family was outside too, just to see what had happened, thinking I'd broken in. FML

Today, while trying to sleep after a night shift, workers came to hook up city sewage service, firing up drills and shouting. An hour later, my child woke me up to tattle on her sister. Just as I was drifting to sleep yet again, the smoke alarm battery started chirping. I give up. FML

Today, I was home alone when I heard the carbon-monoxide detector beeping. Panicking, I grabbed my dog, ran out of my house as fast as I could, and waited outside for 3 hours for my mom to get home. Turned out the detector was just out of batteries. FML

Today, my smoke alarm has a tendency to give false alarms. Despite this, it did not go off at all when I was genuinely overcooking food and smoke was everywhere in the house, except for the room I was in. My smoke detector is plotting against me. FML

...Talk about an extreme reaction to a smoke alarm. You definitely deserved that one. Next time check and see what the hell is going on first. Most times it's just the alarm being stupid, which doesn't mean you have to be, too.

I had a similar situation, but in my case, I smelled around for smoke rather than immediately calling 911. What was odd was all 3 smoke detectors in my apartment were being set off, and would stop after a while. After the 5th time of all three of them going off together and not smelling smoke, I called the fire department just to be safe (maybe there was something I couldn't smell, or carbon monoxide or something). I felt bad calling, but what else could I do? With all three alarms going off, it definitely wasn't the battery. The fire department came by, and they couldn't smell anything either. The alarms never went off again after that. To this day I have no idea what was going on with them.

burnt toast can set them off. shouldv checked first. one day there's b a real fire-one that could easily b extinguished.. but ur guna just run for it anyway, n it'll b your fault, that u n ur neighbours have lost their houses. all over a little bitty fire.
