Today, my smoke alarm went off. In a frenzy, I called 9-1-1 and exited my house. Several minutes later a fire truck showed up. After investigating, one of the firemen informed me I needed to change the batteries in my smoke alarm. FML

...Talk about an extreme reaction to a smoke alarm. You definitely deserved that one. Next time check and see what the hell is going on first. Most times it's just the alarm being stupid, which doesn't mean you have to be, too.

You know how busy the fire department would be if someone called 911 every time this happened? You deserved it for wasting their time.

Now there are two ways of seeing this situation. 1. You just made a total jackass out of yourself and wasted the time of hard working fire fighters. Or 2. You now know most definately that your smoke detector needs new batteries. : )

It's ok to call the fire brigade or the police officers when you are really scared. That's all the reason you need, and it isn't stupid to call them.

well one day that may save your life(over reacting) but it is always good to check before you call. the few seconds it takes to check wont make that much of a difference if your house is on fire and you should be able to smell any fire before you see it.

it was an accident people! don't be rude. im sure you would make that same mistake too! on the bright side, she was being safe. it may not be good for the fire department, but I'm sure they have that thing happen a lot. so chill out! don't be so cranky. gah. :/
