Today, my smoke alarm went off. In a frenzy, I called 9-1-1 and exited my house. Several minutes later a fire truck showed up. After investigating, one of the firemen informed me I needed to change the batteries in my smoke alarm. FML

...Talk about an extreme reaction to a smoke alarm. You definitely deserved that one. Next time check and see what the hell is going on first. Most times it's just the alarm being stupid, which doesn't mean you have to be, too.

You know how busy the fire department would be if someone called 911 every time this happened? You deserved it for wasting their time.

Not sure if this deserves a YDI or a FYL. I've lived in some shit-holes before that I wouldn't waste thirty seconds waiting to see if there was an emergency before I got the hell out. On the other hand, I've never known any smoke alarm to really go off when the battery is low. Most of them just chirp once. Perhaps YDI for not testing the smoke alarm regularly?

Not to sound mean (well, maybe a little), but do you always overreact to stuff like that?

Better safe than sorry. Still, it's a good idea to learn what it sounds like and to keep the thing in good order to save yourself a panic next time.

you deff pretty much not only wasted your time but the ****** policemens as well. good job you just made yourself look like a total dumb ass. congrats

And you made yourself look like a dumbass too, you are aware that the police and the firebrigade are two very seperate departments? Not to mention the lack of grammar and punctuation in your post. Also, the proper term is police officers not policemen. You don't deserve the internet.

I will never call it the fire department again lol. Brigade sounds soo much better.

The vast majority of the time, at least in the US, if the fire station sends out a truck, the police will also be contacted. Especially if you call 911.

haha I was just about to write that also. you're a dumbass when you're being a know-it-all when really you couldn't even tell the difference between the police and fire brigade.

sorry to tell u this, but you're a retard...

I agree with #19. Make sure there is a damn fire before calling 9-1-1

OK, you're one of the people that cause the fire department to have to continually tell people to have fire drills at home and check their smoke detectors on a regular schedule. The problem here is not that you thought there was a fire and inappropriately called the fire department. The problem is that you don't check the batteries in your smoke alarms, and you don't know what they sound like when they alert. Maybe you should do a run through of your house and check all your detectors, work out how they sound, and make sure everything works?
