Today, my train was canceled so my ticket expired by the time another train arrived. I was fined $90 by ticket inspectors 'cause my claim that the early train didn't run was "unsubstantiated". Leaving the train I was pushed by the crowd, fell, lost a shoe and had to walk home with one bare foot. FML

of course it was connex! i take the v line train practically everyday and they're such sweethearts, if you don't have time to buy a ticket or whatever they help you out. I've been caught out more than once and they've always been so good about it. obviously it's not viable to have conductors on all the city trains, but thank god i live in the "country"!

Before i saw where you live, i read your whole entry and thought to myself "this could only happen in melbourne". hahah, damn MTM.

//makes a note to avoid the trains if I'm ever in Australia!

threaten legal action. email/write to them informing them of the situation (in really official looking language), let them know you are prepared to "lawyer up" essentially, if you have to talk to a legal team (free to most uni students :) ) my cousin has gotten out of like 3 connex fines this way. they kept sending "final notices" and he kept ignoring them. now they don't bother him at all.
