Today, on my way to work, I noticed a woman on the side of the road waving for help, her car appearing to be broken down. I pulled over, stepped out of my car, went over to her car, lifted the hood, and checked it. When I looked up to tell her what was wrong, she and my car were gone. FML

That's part of the reason it's so hard to help people anymore.

thats why cars have keys. take them with you and that cant happen!

Yeah. You get to be rescued by the pretty pink ranger... wait, that's power rangers, isn't it?

Welcome to the jungle, we've got stuff for free You can have anything you want but you better not take it from me. I guess she's your introduction to the jungle.

That's the sad part of today's world. You can't give anyone the benefit of the doubt. No one can stop and offer anyone help without fear that someone is trying to take advantage of their kindness.

And that's why you have to lock your car completely before helping.

I seen this before on a TV show. You should be cautious when doing things like this. You played right into her hands.

This is too messed up to deserve it, but yep, my advice would be to get in the habit of at least taking your keys with you anytime you get out of your car in an area where it's exposed to other people, and consider locking it, also. Even if I'm putting a grocery cart away a couple parking spots over from my car, I've learned to do that. I feel stupid or overly mistrusting of people sometimes for doing it, but it's better than having my car or anything in it stolen. Hope you're able to regain your car! As others say, get the police on it immediately, if you haven't already.

YDI for not using due caution when helping someone who appears to be in need. I always shut off my car and take my keys when I stop to help someone on the side of the road.

I guess genuine hospitality and niceness isn't good for anything anymore. Just getting your car stolen.

You shouldnt have left the car open with the keys in there but then again she shouldnt have stole your car and she should have been more appreciative that you were trying to help her.
