If the parents actually DID take the dog to the shelter personally and say that he died, that sucks. A lot. I work at an animal shelter, and we were just discussing the other day something like this that had happened in our area (pretty sure not the same OP, though). Or maybe the dog did run away. It could have taken months for animal control or anyone else to catch him, so maybe he hadn't been at the shelter the whole year. Or maybe the parents gave him away, and in a few months the new family got tired of him and surrendered him. At any rate, the staff would have to really love him or he would have to be super lucky enough to end up at a no-kill, and there aren't many. Still all ties back to the parents being jerks for not being honest, regardless. FYL.

Either OP is making this up or a lot of parents just hate their kids dog cause there's a lot of FMLs up about parents trying to sell/get rid of/kill pets..

I would be pissed too, but look at the bright side u got your dog back. I would be estatic if I found my old dog at a shelter, but unfortunely I know he is really dead :/
