Today, over a year on from my parents telling me my dog had died, I went to the shelter to volunteer, and saw my old dog. FML

buy out the shelter and put all the animals in your parents room.

Buy/adopt the dog again and bring it home. The when your parents walk in act like Nothing happened. If they say Anything it will either be: but that dogs dead! You: doesn't look like it Or: "some sort of admission" you: "confront the asshole parents time" (remember to have something secretly recording the conversation, you can use it later)
