She could also just be messing with your head or not even have a kid. Until a dna test confirms and you see the kid in person.

I'm sure the reason she left actually has a lot to do with why she waited so long. Here is my guess. GF found out she was pregnant with OPs child and disappeared because she either panicked or she feared for some reason to hear what OP would have to say. She split so any decision would be hers and hers alone. Assuming she is a decent person, she probably debated for years whether or not to tell him about the kid and finally after 6 years, she decided it was time. Either that or the GFs parents played a role in her disappearing from his life 6 years ago and she has now finally hit a point in her life where she is able (physically, mentally or emotionally) to tell OP. There could definitely be some other reasons but those would be my two guesses.
