Today, the parent of a student called to ask me about a homework assignment. At the end of the call, she told me that I seem to be losing my "Asian accent" from when she first talked to me in the summer. I was born in the US, grew up in NJ and speak perfect English. FML

Accents are fun. I moved between Texas and New England several times and each time people had funny things to say about my accent. If nothing else, they help people remember you.

Just because you were born in the US and lived in the US, doesn't mean you won't have an accent. Some of my Asian friends were born here, but they still have a slight asian accent because they were raised by an asian family.

NJ is the standard abbreviation for the state of New Jersey. There is nothing wrong with using it i a sentence.

Jersey accent, Asian accent, both annoying.

the **** is a "jersey accent" or "asian accent" anyway? (you racist fucktard)

New Jersey is a big state. People from the south (jersey) and central don't sound like people from the north, and Nobody sounds like the people on jersey shore.

What an idiot. Who says that to someone anyways.

Who says "perfect English"?... Kinda weird.

@56 Yeah, who speaks (or even writes) perfect English. What is "perfect" English anyway? English is different all over the world, with different slang, spellings, pronunciation etc. British and Americans use different slang and even different spellings, which is different than Australians or Canadians. I also know that even different places in America have different slang and accents. This is most likely the same for other languages but I don't speak or understand other languages so I'm not sure.

this isn't really an FML. a lot of Asians who grew Yo in America have an accent because their parents speak to them in their language, so they get the accents from their parents
