Today, the tree that my neighbors have neglected to cut down fell on my car. They claim that by law, they aren't responsible and don't have to pay for it. FML

Get a crane to place the tree on top of their car.

plant a tree wait 30 years, then crush their house with it

That is a load of crap. Call the police, hire a lawyer, and sue those neighbors. It was their fault and you had to suffer the consequences because they are lazy. Good luck

Sounds like a load of crap. The tree fell on your car because of neglegance on their part. Get some sort of tree expert who can testify that the tree was rotted and that neglegance was the root of it all and you should be able to easily win.

So many people on this site claim to be omniscient about the law in every country and add 'by law' to make it sound more reliable. Its ridiculous how many people think that googling the law on something makes them an expert. OP I hope you got them to pay if it was their fault, should probably consult a lawyer though.

by law they are responsible for anything that is on their property, if the tree is in the ground on their property it is their responsibility

can't do that cuz it's there property faulted with yours causing damage neglecting to fix it

By law if the tree was in there yard when it fell on your car then yes they do have to pay for all the damage...but get a lawyer anyways

they'll have to pay for it if you sue them....so sue them

Let's see if they can same the same to the judge.. just get a good lawyer!!

Actually if the tree was on their property before it fell they are required to pay for it....get their homeowners insurance information and call them
