In the US it's illegal to carry any type of weapon. It can even be imaginary for it to be considered a weapon. One of my friend's children a few years back, in 1st grade, picked up a piece of paper that was cut in the shape of Florida, where we live, pointed it like a gun at another kid, and got suspended and almost expelled. After Columbine, Sandy Hook, etc., we're a bit more cautious about percieved weapons and children thinking it's OK to have weapons at school when it's drilled into us that it's not OK. Do I think a first grade should be considered for expulsion over a piece of paper shape like our home state? No. I think that was a bit much, school system trying to make an example... it was even on the news... But I do think that a kid having a bb gun in school should not be tolerated, airsoft should not be tolerated. Those are actual weapons.
Just to add info. This was after school, and I was staying after for practice. While we were outside, a kid came and shot me with a B.B. Gun. It was one of those plastic bullets or whatever but it still hurt enough and left a pretty big bruise. The teacher, my chemistry teacher, apparently didn't even see him shoot it, even though he was basically right in front of her. Thankfully, I talked to the principal and we got my referral removed and the kid is suspended from school and possibly facing charges. ;)
Good on the principal and on you for pursuing it! If the kid was nutty enough to bring a BB gun to school, he very well could have escalated to bringing a more serious weapon.
"THATS IT! IVE HAD ENOUGH!"
I brought a bb gun to school in 2nd grade (didnt know any better, but i wasnt waving it around or anything, some kid saw it in my bag & pulled it out & teacher saw it) & they literally brought 7 cops down & were trying to get me expelled but i ended up getting suspended for a week. They really over reacted.
dang, guns are so accessible these days. how did a student get his hands on a BB gun?? Smh America is failing

Not sure where you live OP, but if you live in the US, that kid could get into serious trouble bringing one of those into school. If you know the kid report him to school security and he should be at least suspended for a while, if not, he'll be dealing with the police.
Did the teacher not do anything to the bbgun kid? If she didn't, I would be concerned about school shooters
