Today, while at the Golden Gate Bridge, I spotted a large group of Asians trying to take a picture. Trying to help, I slowly say, "You... want me... take picture?" while using hand motions. The man looks at me and says, "No thanks asshole, I got it," in plain English. FML

Rule of thumb OP - Age and how they're acting. If they're all a bunch of young to middle aged asians, chances are they're going to know English because let's face it, it's the 21st century and the world is round, and people know other people exist, and asians know that being bilingual is good. If they're an older group of asians and they don't speak English, you won't have to guess (usually). No offense to my blood kin, but most asians by nature are loud (not like the ones born in US), and when they travel in groups everything revolves around them - they could be at a memorial and chattering on in whatever dialect they know about something that probably has nothing to do with what they're looking at. XD I know this because this is what my relatives do - and it's embarrassing. But can't say it's not fun. Just don't expect to hear much other than gossip and what's wrong with the food. YDI, by the way.

By reading all these comments I have come to the conclusion that everyone that posts on this thing is Asian.

OP, please don't ever try to be a diplomat again. You don't have any talent for it. YDI.

Chances are the OP isn't from San Francisco, probably from somewhere in the midwest and was ALSO a tourist. Kind of a stupid way to react though. I clicked both. FYL because I guess you kind of were trying to be helpful, but also YDI for not being too bright.

#44 - can an Asian who doesn't understand Latvian (or Russian) travel to Riga without speaking any English as well? - yes, in a group, if the guide (or one of the group) speaks any of latvian/russian/english and tourists native language. Asians (or whoever) can travel to USA (or almost any other country) in a tourist group speaking just their native language and following the guide. They were in a large group and were taking pictures at a famous bridge - they looked like tourists. OK, in USA those tourists might be from another state, not from Asia, but why to be rude to someone who offered help even if his assumption was wrong? He would have got it from "No, thanks, I can take my pictures myself" anyway. But somewhere in the comments was sthg like: just leave ppl alone :)
