You can always complain, OP. Send an e-mail or a letter to their superiors. Say you helped the lady without being asked and before she could stop you (that way they can't blame her). Then say the manager made your shopping experience really uncomfortable and he/she created a hostile atmosphere. Ask them to reconsider the dismissal. It was really horrible of the boss to fire someone on the spot like that. If punishment was necessary, a warning would have sufficed.
Generally once someone is fired they are fired, right or wrong. She could file a grievance and get severance for probably up to a year. Or sue even though I am not a big fan of litigation. Part of the problem with hiring and firing in business today is due to our overly litigious society.
76, She could get her job back.
You absolutely must call their corporate and file a complaint against that 'boss'.
He's cruel :(
that is so not Canadian
Legally he cant fire her for that.. She could easily get her job back or sue... As for him, maybe someone should oh i domt know punch him...
That's a really bad manager. You probably could have been like "I offered to help!" and then be could get in trouble for upsetting a customer.
There are a couple of different issues happening here. #1) The boss is a poor manager. One basic rule of management is that you don't give employees work that they aren't capable of doing. In addition, there was no need for him to yell at his elderly employee and call her lazy. #2) On the other hand, there are potential liability issues for the store if customers are stocking shelves or reaching up above the shelves to grab merchandise. Bottom line is that the store manager handled the situation poorly.
good point... I guess there could be health and safety...

**** everyone's lives. But really? Just this instance of helping an employee led to said employee's termination? What the serious ****.
