Today, while I was shopping at a store with my friend, I noticed a cute girl smiling at us. My friend said, "She's all yours," and walked away. When I approached her, she asked me if my friend was single. FML

Today, I felt fairly depressed about being single for the holidays during work. This cute girl came to my register asking about our sales ad. After telling her we had no copies, she asked for my number. I shouted: "Finally, someone wants to go out with me." She wanted the store's number to call. FML

I agree with you. He tried to be a good friend to OP and all these people would be really bad friends if they lied just for the girl. I've also been in this situation countless times. I just grew to accept that I sometimes need to be the mutual friend between the two or the 'third wheel', as some would say.
