Today, while I was waitressing, two girls ran up a tab of $60 in drinks. They ended up not paying the bill and walking out. My boss told me it won't be the first time or last, as he made me pay their bill. FML

It WAS the first time, obviously.

legally your manager can not make you pay for that. check with your state work place agency there may be steps you can take to get your money back

Start taking customer driver licenses or ID when someone runs a tab. That way they have to get it before they leave and pay the bill.

So you know, your employer cannot legally make you pay for anything that happens at work. If they fire you, you can sue for wrongful termination. However, once you pay them, you have no legal way to get it back.

pretty sure that is illegal for a boss to make you pay a bill like that. if someone stole a game from a store do you think the owner can make you pay for it? hell no

At which point you should have walked out.

Thats life. Next time start a tab with a credit card

This is all probably illegal, but why didn't you take a credit card for the tab? Here's how I see things: If it's your bar's policy to allow tabs without a credit card, then you should not be held responsible at all and it is illegal for him to do so. However, this is stupid, so I doubt it's the case. If it's not your bar's policy to allow tabs without a credit card, I don't see why you wouldn't be held responsible. You essentially gave the drinks to the customer, which is I think enough grounds for you to be held responsible for the funds.
