Today, while out for lunch, a guy approached me and asked for my number. I politely declined. To my dismay, he dropped to his knees, grabbed his head, and started moaning about how nobody ever gives him a chance. I felt the accusing stares. FML

Today, I saw a ridiculously hot guy dining with his family. I decided not to flirt with him with his parents around but to ask his sister (who went to the restroom) to give him my phone number. Wow. People are pathetic. Op, you are in the right, and should not feel ashamed for politely declining some RANDOM STRANGER asking you for you number. Seems like you dogded a bullet with that stranger if they decided to act like that. I hope you told all the idiots giving you accusing stares to shove off, and ollied the **** out of there.
