Today, while teaching juniors about black holes, I said, "Imagine everything being sucked into a black hole." An African-American student shouted, "I'd better start clenching!" Nobody took the lesson seriously after that. FML

That sucks but I've got to admit it's kind of funny

Humor in a lesson is essential. Some of my best classes involved my professors cracking jokes.

That actually is quite funny. As a teacher, you should allow some jokes being made in your class and be able to deal with it.

When the African-American kid says it, it's not racist -- it's just funny.

Yeah I'm sure the kid was trying to discriminate himself.

So the comment is moderated, but I take it from the replies she said something about this joke being racist. Come on, even if it were someone other than the black guy, it still wouldn't be racist. People need to go after the real racists instead of looking for racism everywhere.

Didn't you know? The kid was being racist against black holes. *Sarcasm*

bright side - nobody is going to forget about black holes now.

That's hilarious! Hopefully some of the remaining lesson was salvaged

At least they'll remember it for the test!

Nothing wrong with a bit of humor as long as afterwards that do take it seriously.

at least they will remember that lesson, I always remember the topics of the classes I had the most fun in! :)
