Today, while trying to take my Christmas tree down, I learned that at some point during the last few weeks, it became home to a colony of green ants. I'm now covered in bites and terrified to go anywhere near it. FML

That's what happens when you listen to your neighbor and spray your tree with sprite.

You know what that means.. CHRISTMAS SPIRIT ALLLL YEAR ROUND!!

Your not meant to take your tree down until the 5th of January anyway maybe the ants are a sign to make sure you take it down on the right day, to give you luck for next year

Okay, OP is Australian, in Australia there are these ants that are of a decent size(for ants) that in the sun have a green shine to them(similar to 'beetle green feathering on birds)Any how, they are known to most people as 'Green Ants' because they appear green. They have a very painful sting that is mostly a problem in children as they roll around in the grass more often than adults. Though once you get stung as an adult/teen/youngadult you are quickly reminded as to why you cried as a small child. They hurt like HELL. I think thats it. I don't blame OP for not wanting to go near the tree, they're mean things, also our trees down, so are our lights. it's time for New Years not Christmas

Throw a sheet over it and take it outside

If the ants are green they definitely work for the Grinch.

Go artificial. Better for the environment, cleaner, lighter, more efficient, and no bugs.

Put some Ant-be-gone nearby and wait a day or two...

Use cinnamon. Ants hate cinnamon.

Did you happen to spray the tree with Sprite a while ago?
