Bad omen

Today, my friend Kate and I were helping build a playground. Halfway through, a construction worker asked where we go to school. I told him we graduated and proudly held degrees in Psych. The construction worker stopped mid-dig, glanced at us sadly, and said, "Yeah, that's what my degree is in too." FML

Unless you're going beyond a four-year degree, psych is useless. This shouldn't surprise you as more psych degrees are handed out than any other concentration last time I checked.

You have to be willing to move where the job is. If you aren't willing to move, then yeah..you might end up there. I knew astrophys' and microbiologists working in an inking factory because they couldn't find jobs in the area.

Psychology can be an easy degree, but it all depends on where you go and what subfields of Psychology you study. I'm a psychology major, but I'm an anthropology major too. Graduating with degrees in both in a total of 3 years. Think they're easy, useless degrees? I'm spending a month in the rain forest doing hands-on research with primates. Primatology can be achieved through psychology or anthropology and it is NOT simple. Majors I've found to be very simple: business. religious studies. philosophy. education. spanish. Of course not everyone will agree, because we don't all go to the same damn school! Funny how that works! @60 - you're an idiot.

it could also be that he did use his psych degree, but didn't like the work. construction workers aren't exactly poor (usually). maybe he prefers it.

@58 maybe at your school, but political science is no joke where I go (plus it's a great major for law school)

i'm indescribably discouraged from endeavoring to pursue a degree in psychology now D:

Eh. If you're good, willing to work hard, good at communication, and a cut above the rest, I'm sure you'll make it. Otherwise, yes, I'll take fries with that.

I don't see what the big deal is. Construction work isn't a bad job. Around here, you get paid pretty frickin well. Awww don't want to do a labor job? Is that the problem? Muffin. My fiance's uncle owns his own construction company, and makes fat cash. He made good money while working his way up from the bottom, and also pays his employees well.

lier lier a construction worker wont ask for help for anybody they dont work with the second they do there at liability for you and no body ever wants that kind of responsibility

Awwwww... That is just the nature of a psych degree- you gotta AT LEAST get a master's. A bachelor's in psychology is still an awesome accomplishment - just continue on with your education!! I am finishing up my PhD in psychology - and while it has taken a long time, it is well worth it. Good Luck!
