Bad omen

Today, my friend Kate and I were helping build a playground. Halfway through, a construction worker asked where we go to school. I told him we graduated and proudly held degrees in Psych. The construction worker stopped mid-dig, glanced at us sadly, and said, "Yeah, that's what my degree is in too." FML

Unless you're going beyond a four-year degree, psych is useless. This shouldn't surprise you as more psych degrees are handed out than any other concentration last time I checked.

You have to be willing to move where the job is. If you aren't willing to move, then yeah..you might end up there. I knew astrophys' and microbiologists working in an inking factory because they couldn't find jobs in the area.

#13 Wrong! If you wanted to go into psychology, you would know that a bachelor's degree is only a stepping stone to more studies. Almost everyone in the physical health care field has more education and training than what you'd get from four years at a university. If you want mental health care to achieve parity (and I do), you are going to have to insist that the people working in that field are similarly educated.

psych is not an easy course, but it is true that undergrad psych is more of a stepping stone for post graduate studies

a) Sorry, psych majors, but every moronic drunk bimbo from every college across the country obtains a psych degree with no trouble. It's not too impressive. b) Construction workers can make a lot of money, are incredibly knowledgeable in their field, and provide an extremely useful service. Just because it's physical instead of mental work doesn't mean it's somehow inferior. c) With that said, OP, that does suck, and I'm sorry. But this is no guarantee that you won't be able to find a well-paying job in your field (that is, after grad school). Also, good for you for volunteering. Luck!

oh yeah, and #39: "Psych degrees involve, sociology, biology, neuroscience, statistics and philosophy..." Yeah, the most watered-down versions of these things for people who aren't smart enough to actually be a neuroscience or philosophy major.

Psychology is the subject people take when they don't know what other subject to take. Just the sheer number of people studying it should cry out that there simply aren't enough psychology jobs for all the graduates!

hahahahaha thats awesome. look forward to your career options with a bachelors in psych.. get a real degree seriously, the courses might get a little tricky but where will that degree take you? takes you into a DOT uniform and a job working the jackhammer

EVERYONE majors in psych. Just like how nearly everyone takes Political Science as a minor because it's so simple.

what else did you think you would do with a bogus degree? teach? the world doesnt need that many psych teachers

I don't get it =(. So you have a degree in psych, and then a construction worker sais he has one too? How's that FML? Someone please explain, and is Psych PHYSICS? What is it short for?
