Today, we found out that my unborn sibling is a girl, and my parents quickly named her. In a few years' time, "Candida" is going to catch all kinds of shit at school, just like I do for being named Dorothy. My "friends" have already started calling me "Lil' yeast infection's sis." FML

They really need to leave the ridiculous baby names for the celebrities. **** both your lives, hard. :( stupid parents. Those people are jerks also. :/

Had to laugh, but bravo to your parents for still having live for each other :) They must have had you very young.

anytime it gets too much for you, op, just click your heels together three times and express your desire to go home...

In college, I had a friend with a screwed up name. He has it legally changed as soon as he was old enough to do so. Maybe you should do that before your sister is born - to show your parents how screwed up they are and hopefully save your sister a pita.

First of all, there are laws in place that prohibit names like that. Child Protection services would not allow it. Second of all, if they somehow do get away with it, you could call her Candy. Better a stripper name than having a STD for a name.

Being in the medical profession, I have come across 4 people named this within a matter if months, and I had never heard this name before. The first was a poor 20 year old girl. So I did a quick google search, and the name is a Latin form for the word white. The last was a 60 year old woman I had as a patient last week. You would be surprised how common this name is .

#99, Tony Orlando and Dawn had a hit called "Candida" in the early 70's. The name is from the same Latin root as "candidate." That word came about because people running for office in Ancient Rome would bleach their togas extra white to attract attention.

you are referring to the name Dorothy? & it's not that it isn't a pretty name or uncommon, it just tends to be associated with older or elderly people

Dorothy is from the Greek, meaning "gift of God", just like Theodore.

Wasn't there a FML about a woman who wanted to name her daughter 'chlamydia'? Either which way, parents should never name their kids after diseases.

I swear, that poor child will not go through her life without some douchebag calling her "Candildo". It happened to my friend when a 7th grader conveniently discovered that the name of a vibrating sex toy flawlessly goes together with the name "Dylan".

How much older than your sister are you?

At least they didn't name you syphilis. How...? What train of thought made them derail at Candida? Dorothy is a very nice name, by the way.
