Today, I swam in a race against all of the girls in the midwest in the hardest, longest, most grueling race you can swim. I won. Happy but so tired I could barely move, I looked up to see my time. I had been disqualified. For flinching. Before the race started. FML

How is that grounds for disqualification? And shouldn't they have told you before the race started that you were disqualified?

this actually is an fml. i'm sorry, that really sucks. don't let it weigh you down though, it'll only make you feel bad in the long run. :/

by the time you get to that level of competition, that's just one of the things you need to have perfected you'll go back next year and do even better, i'm sure. sucks for you this around though. got some work to do.

Flinching counts as a false start. I've been disqualified for that before, as well. Were you swimming open water or the 1650/1500?

I submitted an FML about basically the same exact thing a month ago and it got declined. I had to race the 1000 for the first time ever, and I was hyped up and ready to go. I was doing okay and came in second, but as soon as I got out of the water the official came over to me and said "Sorry I have to do this, but you flinched on the start." yeah right you're sorry. FML. so I swam the 1000 for basically no reason, and it cost money to enter me in the event. Sorry you had to go through the same thing, I know how you feel!

Oh Mann that's suckkksss ): I swim too and I hate all of those dumb rules. Whoever made up the rules like no flinching on the block must have no life at allll!

im a swimmer too... and what the heck. your coach should've pulled you out if you were at a meet that mattered. he shouldnt have made you go the entire way for nothing, thats a waste of energy that could have been used elsewhere.

Oh god, I know how you feel, I swim too and I got disqualified in my most horrendously difficult race. I know your pain, it's so god damn /infuriating/ isn't it? ;-;

@ #27: No, the Olympic Committee is not thinking about taking his medals because a picture showed him using illegal drugs. He was clean during and before the Olympics, which means it doesn't matter what he does after. so stfu.
