Today, I swam in a race against all of the girls in the midwest in the hardest, longest, most grueling race you can swim. I won. Happy but so tired I could barely move, I looked up to see my time. I had been disqualified. For flinching. Before the race started. FML

How is that grounds for disqualification? And shouldn't they have told you before the race started that you were disqualified?

this actually is an fml. i'm sorry, that really sucks. don't let it weigh you down though, it'll only make you feel bad in the long run. :/

maybe you should take up something a bit less stressful. perhaps knitting or gardening. although you might want to watch the flinches while knitting, that can be pretty dangerous, though you don't have to worry about being disqualified. EDIT: or maybe baking??

Keep in mind that even though you don't have the trophy or ribbon or whatever, you beat everyone else. And it's a good experience, right? Not everything is about winning. That said, I am so so sorry. That's gotta suck. It's totally unfair that you were disqualified, sometimes you can't control a flinch. #11: moron. that was insensitive, what you said.

i was a swimmer in high school and swam for a winter club, too....i don't see why the officials didn't stop the race with the announcing system or the rope...that doesn't make any sense..especially if it was such a big meet.. therefore, i don't see the validity in this FML.

i swam in high school, dropped 5 seconds in my breast, won conference, and got disqualified. i never swam that time again.

If it was a distance race, shouldn't you have a counter at one end of the pool? That's how we had it at least (I was a swimmer in HS) in which case they SHOULD have known and somehow signaled you - I'm not calling it a fake, I'm just saying it sucks even more for your wingman/woman should have taken care of that for you but somehow it didn't happen :( Actually not only that, but usually the official would shoot off a gun if someone DQd at the beginning of the race, that way they would be prevented from swimming the whole thing. It happened to a friend/teammate of mine during his 500 :-/

that sucks, im guessing it was the 400im or the 1650 or the 1500.

FYL, that is total bullshit. The officials just wanted the other girls to win! J/K. No really, swimming competitions are tough work; there's definitely not bullshit allowed in a swim race (and I call bullshit on the officials).

#48: You're an internet loser. One who spends an excessive amount of time dicking around on internet message boards and the like. -Urban Dictionary.

#28, you're SO right. what race was this because.. i'm pretty sure if you swam against EVERY swimmer in the midwest, it must of been a HUGE meet.. So i'm pretty sure I would of heard of it.. since i'm a swimmer. kthnkz HAHAHAHAH
