Today, a woman on the train demanded I give up my seat for her, claiming it was for people with disabilities. Tired from a long day at work, and seeing she had nothing wrong with her, I asked what her disability was. Apparently, obesity is one. FML

I think that something you work for so hard shouldn't be considered disability - nobody is born obese, after all, and it's not like you can have some awful accident and suddenly become obese... There are some medical conditions that make it easier to gain weight but, for f's sake, you won't get BMI of 40 just because you have a condition, there must be lots of eating and no exercises too.

That's not what I meant. 'Working hard' is something to be admired. 'Working hard to get obese' - eating junk food, not exercising, not paying attention to the fact of causing major harm to one's own body - is something different.

This woman who was 900+ pounds was 400 before she got in a car accident and her leg got crushed. She gained 500 pounds when she became bedridden, but I won't say that's not ridiculous at all.

dang, I agree ur life does suck...I hope u didn't get up...should have let her chunky butt continue to stand up...obesity is not a disability unless she has a medically explained reason as to why she is that size. Not being able to push away from the dinner table or a plate of food is not a medically explain reason lol! She should cut out the deep elbow bends!

Obesity is an epidemic of the lazy, not a disability. You must live in the south, where homosexuality is a choice and obesity is genetic.

Pretty sure the first states to legalize gay marriage are in the northeast. While I'm sure homophobia exists in the north, it is nowhere near as prevalent as it is in the south. And as for stupidity, the Bible Belt tests the lowest in the nation on standardized tests. So yeah, in general, I'd say the south is dumber than the north. As it turns out bible thumping isn't usually that great for the brain.

Lol, are you taking offense on behalf of the south? If you're taking this as an attack on the south from a Yankee, then you're way off base. I live in the south and am surrounded by obese idiots. Of course ignorance and stupidity is everywhere. However, obesity rates are higher in the south, thus making it more likely to have occurred in the south. If you can't understand this very simple concept, then it lends credence to my assertion that people in the south are dumb.

In my country, there are actually seats for obese people. Wider seats with a note on top of them that they are priority seats for the obese. Just saying because it's related. I don't really get it, because someone big enough to need that seat is too wide to get through the turnstile anyway.
