I *really* hope you have a roommate, because if not, putting a sock on your door is either a) stupid, if it's on the bedroom door, or b) obnoxious and bragging, if it's on the outside door.
I'm starting college in a month and I was told of the sock from the people running orientation. It definitely depends on the school
I have never, ever seen the "sock-on-the-door" thing. Why not just get a "do-not-disturb" sign?
Dumb parent.
Sometimes you forget the windows...
Or they could've just locked their doors and told their roommates to stay away beforehand. Or no one at your two schools ever got laid.
Lets see. Your brand new apartment. As in you should be the only one with a key. So she shouldn't have a key and thus shouldnt even be capable of getting into the living room, much less your bedroom. If you were foolish enough to not lock the door to your apartment when you went to your bedroom then you're lucky it was just your mom that got in. Though she's a major pain in the ass for not seeing the sock and leaving.

actually, that's not true. i'm currently in college and the sign for having sex isn't a sock on the door. it's locking the damned thing.
And a sock on the door would help... how?
