Today, apparently when you tell a hairdresser, "A little off the sides," they hear, "A bowl cut please, and make it look extra stupid." FML

Always bring a picture of the result you want. That way you can show them what you want. If the screw it up, you can have a chat with their manager on how well they cut hair.

OH GOD. I remember going there and asking for a longer version of the undercut (because my hair was already in a very short pixie cut). They nearly shaved me bald, took an extra inch off the top and made me look extremely butch. I was heartbroken.

There isn't much one can do at that point. Aside from gluing the hair back on or practically shaving their whole head, I can't see what OP could've asked the hairdresser to do. FYL, OP. Looking in the mirror and watching the exact moment the hairdresser goes past the point of no return is terrifying. Invest in a hat? Anything but a fedora.

A good hairdresser should be able to fix it and make it look more normal. At least your a guy, so you could just buzz cut it and still look good. Buzz cuts can look really sexy on a guy in my opinion! ;)

Also keep in mind that "a little off the bottom" means you're interested in losing 4 inches.

Good that he/she didn't take it too literally and shave your ears off. I would honestly make someone else there fix it for free or go elsewhere since there's no way he/she would be going near me with scissors again.

Bowl cuts can easily be styled in an attractive way, it just means investing in some products.
