How could you do this to me?

Today, I learned I'm not allergic to gluten. My mom has kept me on a gluten-free diet since I was 5. She was convinced I was allergic to it. I'm 25 and I am writing this over my first slice of pizza in 20 years. FML

At least your mom isn't like the one in the other FML where the poor guy was told that he was allergic to chocolate and his mother was hogging the chocolate chip cookies :P

Wow, you successfully avoided that crap for two decades, only to throw that all away when you found out that you weren't allergic. That stuff is pretty damn bad for you, and it's in so much of our food. Companies add it to food because it's addictive and everyone thinks it's healthy.

Taken from two different nutrition articles: Wheat products provide protein, important vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber and complex carbohydrates. If you eliminate gluten from your diet, you could cut out essential nutrition as well. Unless you suffer from celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, foods containing gluten offer many health benefits. Often in the absence of gluten, food manufacturers will have to use more fat or sugar to bind foods together (gluten is key in binding food together). A serving size of pretzels containing gluten is 110 calories and 1 gm. of fat. The same serving of gluten free pretzels is 140 calories and 6 gm. of fat.

Gluten is a natural part of wheat and related grains. A gluten-free diet can deprive your body of needed nutrition, which is why it is so difficult for people with Celiac's disease to get by. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you are either paranoid or a conspiracy theorist.

Don't get fat by going carb crazy! As a person with Celiac's, I envy you.

How ironic. I've been allergic to gluten my whole life and my parents never told me until recently! It sucks.

I have celiac disease and hate it!!! GF foods are tolerable, but not really good. Your mom sucks. Tests 20 yrs ago were not as advanced or accurate, now it's a simple blood test. I wish my diagnosis was wrong:(

Everybody is allergic to gluten to some extent.
