I hate this job

Today, I forced myself into work with severe laryngitis. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, except I work at candy and ice cream store at a major tourist destination. For seven hours I had to communicate with unsympathetic adults and screaming, bratty kids by miming and using a dry erase board. FML

"Unsympathetic adults..." .... I'm finding my faith in humanity to be wearing thinner and thinner....

I've had it many times and was forced to talk. A dry erase board is a bit dramatic for me.

I agree. When I had it my voice got very deep and croaky, but not THAT bad. I was still able to talk. I think the main issue is coughing because of mucus build up and pain. At least for me the two times I've had it.

Hey you came to work sick, first of all. You made the best of it. People are often too selfish, distracted, and impatient to understand or sympathize with "something" that slows their progress, forgetting there's a "someone" in front of them. And especially on their holidays. Feel better soon.

And you would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids

It's a shame that the symptoms of laryngitis aren't present immediate after exposure to a contagious person...that would shut the brats up (and it still may if you get them sick...unfortunately, they'll be long gone, so you won't reap the benefits).

isn't laryngitis contagious? you probably should have stayed at home

I know laryngitis sucks and all, but a dry erase board? really? that's a little dramatic, OP

somebody give OP a raise! that's what I call dedication!
