Lower your expectations

Today, it was my birthday. Some 17 year-olds will receive cars as presents from their parents. Mine, however, booked me a plot in the local graveyard. FML

A car depreciates over time, whereas a cemetery plot will appreciate. Considering you won't need it for 60 years and the time value of currency, sounds like you just got a pretty sweet deal.

Well, I'm almost 18 and I still don't have a car. I have three siblings. My family just can't afford it. If you're an only child, then don't get too worked up over it. Maybe your parents are trying to teach you that you have to work for some things in your life. You might be able to pay for one in the future if you get a job now. It's better not to be one of those spoiled kids that flaunt their parents' wealth in everyone else's faces with new phones every month, huge allowances, awesome new cars... Think about what you DO have. (the graveyard thing was a joke btw)

I think your just jealous, why not work for a car at 18? I'm pretty sure you could use one. Some kids are just more fortunate and actually appreciate their gifts.

You make out like all 17 year olds with cars got their parents to buy them, most people I know worked hard to buy their cars. I saved up for 3 months to buy my crappy £600 Ford Ka when I was 17. Don't just assume things.

Yeah, I assumed OP was expecting a crappy 2nd had one. A lot of people commenting here seem to be assuming OP wanted a brand new car :/

Not all teenagers flaunt the wealth. Yes some do (and they're the d-bags anyway), but not all. I went to private school and most people got really nice brand new cars for their 16th birthdays. Not all of them did, and a lot of us got really nice cars that belonged to our parents for awhile. But that didn't mean we flaunted it (again some did but not all).

this actually isn't that ******. I mean a long as they got you a grave stone, those arnt cheap

are you on a longboard? I can't tell from the HDR

Your parents know their priorities. You should be happy.

I hope everyone who comments on FML is as 'considerate' and unspoiled as they expect others to be in real life as otherwise that would make them all hypocrites. Getting someone a grave plot at 17 or I would go as far to say any age as a birthday present is weird and wrong.

I'd love someone to buy me a plot! Those things are expensive! I'm 24 and I've started paying for my funeral already because I want to be buried and I know my family couldn't afford to pay for it.

Never too late? I can think of a time when it's too late to go buy one. It's called "Death" or so I've heard.

Hey look at the bright side now you don't have to pay for one with your retirement money.
