Meat is murder

Today, my fiancé's parents visited. I keep chickens for their eggs, and his parents own a farm, so we had a connection. They told us to leave the house while they cooked us dinner. When we returned, we faced two steaming plates of chicken. My chickens. They had names. FML

Awwwwww, that's so sad!!! Like they served you the family dog... So, did you tell them, or did you try to 'man up'?

That sucks bad! I would have burst out crying right in front of their eyes... I can't believe people are clicking YDI =/

I raised farm hens for eggs, though we did keep one or two roosters to protect them from foxes and such (which they did very effectively) so we did occasionally get chicks. We'd keep the hen-chicks, and if there were too many roosters I would either sell or kill and prepare them, to keep them from getting overcrowded. Still, I had one named Walterina (her name had been Walter, I thought she was a rooster until she started laying eggs, but she wouldn't answer to anything else so Walterina it was) and if anyone even thought of killing and cooking her, even when she got too old to lay eggs and was retired, I'd rip their spine out through their mouths. No one has the right to do something like that to someone else's animals without their explicit permission. I sincerely hope you gave them a piece of your mind and kicked them out, and refuse to let them return until they sincerely apologize and understand what they've done, at the very LEAST.

I don't get that. . . If you had a large number of chickens, I could understand. But they saw you only had two chickens, why kill them?

Am I the only one who doesn't think OP necessarily is a vegetarian? I know I'm not, but I could never ever eat an animal that I loved. As in a pet.

i know how you feel we all have those embarassing stories

That's why you don't name your food.

there are only 2 possibilities: 1 - they knew better, and killed your chickens on purpose, to send some kind of evil message or 2- they are extremely dim-witted. good luck in the future either way.

Go and cook their dog maybe? In all seriousness, that is just awful and I feel so incredibly sorry for you :( I would've screamed at them "why did you kill my beloved pets?" and then run off to cry somewhere. Why in hell did they think it was ok to kill YOUR chickens, even if you had gotten them to eat them later (which obviously wasn't the case)??? I hope you never let your future children stay at their place O___O

They're also for providing eggs, which is what the OP used them for. That's much more useful in the long run than using them for meat.

I would have never forgiven them!!!
