Today, my neighbor confessed to me that he was homophobic and regrets that his family doesn't know it. He spent fifteen minutes explaining how much he would hate to have a gay child. I spent two hours last night convincing his son that it was the right thing to tell his family he was gay. FML

Don't worry, it's more than okay to be gay. I am gay myself. People aren't going to accept it but you have to do what's right for your life, even if the people around you don't like it. Your advice was great so **** what other people are saying about you messing up. You did the right thing :D

If you're going to be an ignorant douchebag, at least learn to spell.

I'm black and I'm incredibly literate, so Rot in hell you dirty ****.

There is nothing wrong with being homosexual, "homofobia" is just wrong! See what I did there?

Ok, Its not kthxbai or whatever else because I don't need to conform to your jargon. And I'm not getting pissed off, because you are a "40-year-old" man with the word **** everywhere and now you're sending me LOADS of texts saying things about Cocks and tell me to suck lots of 'em. I don't have textfree.us so you're just adding extra fees to your bloody iMechanism by texting me K. Thanx. Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!

I already know that you're a youngster. And A Huge troll at that. My sex life is no one's business but I'll tell you that I don't much fancy 69, no matter how many times I try it... You're obviously not getting any ass. And if you are, I'm sure your sex partners are hideous ******* chuds.

god made us to be who we are...if someone chooses to be a certain way, i think its ok, shouldnt judge.

I think you should re-read your comment. Hint: "did god make us to love the oppisite sex? I THINK NOT!!!!"

If God didn't make us to love whatever sex we happen to love... who did? Who else do you claim has the power to make people?

"Don't worry, it's more than okay to be gay. I am gay myself. People aren't going to accept it but you have to do what's right for your life, even if the people around you don't like it." QFT

Why exactly? That person seems to have the most standing to be able to judge what they did, since they probably went through the same sort of thing.

There is nothing wrong with being homofobic, homosexuality is just wrong!

maybe your neighbor was telling you that because he thought you were gay

more like f the kids life. his whole relationship with his dad is gonna be ruined now

selfish much? f YOUR life? Try thinking about the kid who's about to tell his homophobic father hes gay.

Man, I hate the word "homophobia". Homophobia isn't some sort of clinical fear, it's just plain ignorance and hatred from small minds. OP, I'm sorry your good deed didn't turn out as planned, but I think you still did the right thing. It's not your fault the father's a douche.

Well, the neighbor was a closet homophobe so obviously this guy had no reason to think the kids' family would have a problem with it. I think it's always a commendable thing to be honest about who you are. I say **** anyone who doesn't accept you because of your sexual orientation. I'm bi and if my mother thought less of me because of it I would have a very limited relationship with her. But I know many other people feel differently and cherish their relationship with their parents so much that they're willing to lie about who they are to them or simply depend on their family financially too much to be able to come out. I strongly encourage gays to come out to homophobic parents if they accept what consequences may come because it could actually prompt the parents to realize that their homophobia is unwarranted to realize that someone they love and possibly respect and admire is gay. The organization PFLAG was founded due to revelations of this kind. But while I really admire gays who come out to homophobic parents I do understand and don't look down upon some people's decisions not to come out to their parents. It's a tough situation. But overall, although I think the OP's intentions were good, I don't think it's a good idea to spend hours trying to convince anyone to make such a risky decision. That's a decision someone has to make for himself. I hope the OP had time to talk to the kid and warn him about his father's confession.

Me too. I was just thinking about how the term almost gives them an excuse. A phobia is an uncontrollable, irrational fear. Hatred is controllable.

Homophobia is defined as fear or contempt for homosexuality. The word is perfect in this situation.

I read the comment, crazycok. I think you're the one who needs to STFU. Just sayin'.

I really dont believe this is true.. What are the odds of him confessing his homophobia right after you told his son to come out. this is one of the very Few fml's i doubt. but i guess if the OP had brought the topic up to the dad, it wouldnt be as unbelievable.
