Definitely not legal. Like everyone has already said, lawsuit. Unless you are okay with being shot and losing your job. Perhaps you could lose your job with paid damages. Sounds like you would deserve a little cushion in this situation if your boss is that much of an asshole. Think of it...time off, with extra money, time to get a job with a boss who actually cares about you...
