Noooooooo!

By please don't back that thing up - 09/08/2013 05:00 - United States

Today, I stopped at a red light, when I noticed the car in front of me was in reverse. I honked at the driver, hoping he'd realize and place the car in drive. He thought the light turned green and immediately backed into me. FML

Wonder how they managed to pull up to a light and end up in reverse.

the ever helpful "honk"... I usually do the opposite of what the honkers want, but not like THAT

How the heck did you see that he was in reverse?

How do you notice a car in front of you is in reverse gear?

IDK... maybe the little white lights that mean "I'M BACKING THE **** UP"? Thats just my theory though...

What's worse is usually in accidents it's assumed that the person in the back was at fault :/ hopefully he told the cops what happened or there were witnesses

This is why I have a teleprompter app on my phone. I can flash messages to others through their rear view mirror when I'm at a red light (never while I'm driving) and I'm definitely adding something like to my list. "Your car is in reverse" ;)

And this is why I give people A LOT of room when I stop at a light..

I would have just backed the hell up, if possible, then he would have had the room to reverse, realized his mistake, and corrected it without hitting you. The universal sign for "go! the light is green!" while you're waiting in traffic is a honk. Makes sense he responded the way he did.

At a green light, it even a red light, you don't really expect people to back up. If anything, they inch forward!

how could you tell the car was in reverse?

Probably by the backing/backup light that, well, lights up when you're in reverse.

The reverse lights were on, obviously. ;)

I hope you exchanged information with him and that he has Insurance.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the fact that the van would be a few feet too far way from the white line would be a hint for me, if I was a cop.

Also I vaguely remember hearing that if the driver has no insurance, they are automatically at fault. Don't quote me on that though.
